Explore South Dakota’s Badlands with a Thanksgiving Weekend Road Trip

Apple pies, pumpkin spice lattes and cinnamon everything is in the air. So is nostalgia and adventure. Grab your friends and family, reunite in a Ram truck, and explore the Mount Rushmore state.

Discover South Dakota’s Unique Landscape and Monuments

South Dakota is rich with breathtaking landscapes, wildlife, and an exciting history. Before airplanes were a thing, South Dakota was a major travel hub in the West. Lewis and Clark passed through; Crazy Horse made his last stand, and an 1876 gold rush mining camp became the famed town, Deadwood, you may have seen a show modeled after on HBO.

Start with the Badlands, End in Mount Rushmore

From I-90, head east from Rapid City to Exit 131 to the northeast entrance to Badlands National Park. From here you’ll see the park’s jagged sandstone spikes that only this part of the country can be associated with. On your way back to Rapid City, you can stop by Mount Rushmore if you travel south via Highway 16. Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, will appreciate your visit.
