2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee: What's New, the Trailhawk & Trim Guide
The off-road Trailhawk returns, there is a fresh set of colors, and the lineup gets a few real changes — here is everything that is new for 2027, built for South Dakota.
What's New for the 2027 Grand Cherokee?
The 2027 Grand Cherokee keeps the comfortable, capable formula that works so well out here and adds a few genuine changes worth knowing about before you shop.
- The Trailhawk returns. The off-road-focused trim is back for 2027 on the two-row, with real trail hardware and the most ground clearance in the lineup.
- A fresh color palette. Four new colors join the lineup and a few older ones retire.
- The Laredo goes V6-only. For 2027 the entry Laredo pairs solely with the 3.6L V6; the turbo four moves up to Limited and above.
- Package updates across the lineup refine what comes standard on each trim.

The Trailhawk Is Back — and Built for a Plains Winter
The headline change for 2027 is the return of the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. It is the most capable Grand Cherokee you can buy, and while Jeep builds it to conquer a mountain trail, what it really gives a South Dakota family is unshakable confidence on deep snow and rough gravel.
| 2027 Trailhawk | Detail |
|---|---|
| 4x4 system | Quadra-Drive II-level capability with Quadra-Trac II and a two-speed transfer case |
| Ground clearance | Up to 11.4" with Quadra-Lift air |
| Off-road angles | 36.0° approach / 24.4° breakover / 30.3° departure |
| Protection & grip | Front, fuel-tank, and transfer-case skid plates; all-terrain tires; red tow hooks |
| Engine | 2.0L Hurricane turbo, 324 hp / 332 lb-ft; tows 6,200 lbs |
| Inside | Standard Nappa leather, 12.3" Uconnect, power liftgate |
The Trailhawk is offered on the two-row Grand Cherokee (not the three-row L), and it slots between the Limited and the Summit on price. Want the full breakdown? Read our Trailhawk guide.
2027 Grand Cherokee Trim Lineup
The big lineup news is the added Trailhawk and the Laredo's move to V6-only. Otherwise the familiar trims carry over, each available as a two-row or as the three-row Grand Cherokee L (the L does not offer the Trailhawk).
| Trim | Engine | Stands Out For |
|---|---|---|
| Laredo | 3.6L V6 (new: V6-only for 2027) | Value, full standard safety tech, cloth |
| Limited | 2.0L Turbo | Leatherette, heated seats, 12.3" nav |
| Limited Reserve | 2.0L Turbo | Nappa leather comfort |
| Trailhawk (new) | 2.0L Turbo | Off-road hardware, 11.4" clearance, standard Nappa |
| Summit | 2.0L Turbo | Palermo leather, ventilated seats, air suspension, 19-speaker |
Jeep has also announced the Overland's return for 2027, but it is not yet part of the orderable lineup we can build — we will update this page when it is. For a full trim walk-through, see our 2027 trim guide.
New Colors for 2027
The 2027 palette gets a real refresh: four new colors come in and four older ones retire.
| New for 2027 | Retired after 2026 |
|---|---|
| Ghost | Baltic Grey Metallic |
| High Gloss Black | Diamond Black Crystal |
| Red Hot | Silver Zynith |
| Sting-Gray | Velvet Red |
Bright White, Copper Shino, Fathom Blue, and Steel Blue carry over, and the Summit and Trailhawk offer a two-tone look with a High Gloss Black roof. For which shade hides dust and winter salt best around here, see our 2027 color guide.
Engines & Capability
The two familiar engines carry into 2027 — the 3.6L Pentastar V6 (293 hp / 260 lb-ft) and the 2.0L Hurricane turbo four (324 hp / 332 lb-ft) — through an eight-speed automatic, with the same 6,200-pound maximum towing when properly equipped.
The one change: for 2027 the Laredo comes only with the V6, while the Limited, Trailhawk, and Summit run the turbo. As before, there is no V8 in the lineup. The full engine trade-off is the same story as 2026, and our V6-versus-Hurricane guide still applies.

Is the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk coming back for 2027?
Yes. The off-road Trailhawk returns for 2027 on the two-row Grand Cherokee, with Quadra-Trac II, up to 11.4 inches of ground clearance, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and standard Nappa leather. It is not offered on the three-row Grand Cherokee L.
What colors are new on the 2027 Grand Cherokee?
Ghost, High Gloss Black, Red Hot, and Sting-Gray are new for 2027, replacing Baltic Grey, Diamond Black Crystal, Silver Zynith, and Velvet Red. Bright White, Copper Shino, Fathom Blue, and Steel Blue carry over.
Does the 2027 Laredo still offer the turbo engine?
For 2027 the Laredo pairs solely with the 3.6L V6; the 2.0L Hurricane turbo is offered on the Limited, Trailhawk, and Summit. In 2026 the Laredo could be had with either engine, so this is a change worth noting.
Should I buy a 2026 now or wait for the 2027?
If you want a Grand Cherokee on the lot today with both engine choices on the Laredo, the 2026 is ready now. Wait for the 2027 if the returning Trailhawk or the new colors are what you are after. Our buy-now-or-wait guide walks through it.
