2027 Jeep Wrangler: What's New, Special Editions & Trim Guide

Three new special editions, a refreshed color palette, and the same solid-axle hardware underneath — here is everything that changes for 2027, and what does not, for central South Dakota buyers.

What's New for the 2027 Wrangler?

The 2027 Wrangler is a styling-and-editions year, not a mechanical one. The solid axles, the three 4x4 systems, both mainstream engines, the manual transmission, and the 392 all carry over unchanged. What changes is what you can dress it up as, and what color you can order it in.

  • Three new special editions. The retro-styled Rewind, the appearance-focused California Edition (offered on both the two-door and the four-door), and the Smoky Mountain package with its hood decal and smoky-black wheels.
  • Two editions retire. The 85th Anniversary Edition and the Willys 41 were 2026-only; if you want either, the 2026 is the one to buy.
  • A refreshed color palette. Some shades carry over, a few retire, and new ones arrive. Bright White and Black continue.
  • Everything under the body stays put. 285-hp V6 with the six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, 270-hp 2.0L turbo, 470-hp 392 V8, and the Command-Trac, Selec-Trac, and Rock-Trac 4x4 systems, all unchanged.

The 2027 Special Editions: Rewind, California Edition & Smoky Mountain

All three are appearance-and-equipment packages layered over the regular trims, not new mechanical variants. That is good news: you get the look without giving up the hardware, and you can still spec the tires and top you want for a South Dakota winter.

Edition Body The Look Who It Fits
Rewind 4-Door Retro-inspired graphics, wheels, and interior accents that nod to the Wranglers of the 1990s The buyer who had a YJ or TJ in high school and wants that feeling back with a warranty
California Edition 2-Door and 4-Door Appearance package with unique badging and wheel and trim details The lake-and-summer Wrangler; it is the only edition offered on the two-door
Smoky Mountain 4-Door Hood decal and smoky-black wheels for a darker, understated look The buyer who wants the Willys-style attitude without bright graphics

Exact content, colors, and pricing for each edition are set at order time, so ask us for the current build details before you commit. For a deeper look at all three, read our special editions guide.

2027 Wrangler Trim Lineup

The core ladder is the same one you know: Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, Rubicon X, and the 392, with the three new editions layered on top. The two-door keeps Sport through Rubicon X and adds the California Edition.

Trim Body 4x4 System Stands Out For
Sport / Sport S 2-Door, 4-Door Command-Trac part-time The base Wrangler; soft top, 12.3" screen, manual standard with the V6
Willys 2-Door, 4-Door Command-Trac + rear locker All-terrain tires, rear locking differential, rock rails; the hunting-and-winter value pick
Sahara 4-Door Selec-Trac full-time Body-color hardtop, heated seats and wheel, 4-Auto mode for slick highways
Rubicon / Rubicon X 2-Door, 4-Door Rock-Trac 4:1, front and rear lockers Heavy-duty axles, sway-bar disconnect, 33s standard, 35s available
392 4-Door Rock-Trac full-time 4:1 6.4L V8, 470 hp, continues for 2027
Rewind (new) 4-Door Per base trim Retro-styled special edition
California Edition (new) 2-Door, 4-Door Per base trim Appearance package, the only edition on the two-door
Smoky Mountain (new) 4-Door Per base trim Hood decal, smoky-black wheels

The 85th Anniversary Edition and the Willys 41 do not return. For a full trim walk-through and what changed in the packages, see our 2027 trim guide.

Colors for 2027

The Wrangler palette gets its usual model-year shuffle for 2027: the staples like Bright White and Black continue, a few of the 2026 shades retire, and new ones take their place. Jeep finalizes the exact list through the order cycle, so we keep the names off this page and will walk you through what is orderable the day you ask.

Our practical advice does not change year to year: mid-tone grays, greens, and tans hide gravel dust and winter salt best out here, black shows everything, and white is the easiest to keep looking clean. For the full rundown on which colors hold up, see our 2027 color guide.

Engines, 4x4 & Capability: Unchanged, and That's the Point

The 3.6L Pentastar V6 (285 hp / 260 lb-ft) with its standard six-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic, the 2.0L turbo four (270 hp / 295 lb-ft, automatic only), and the 6.4L V8 in the 392 (470 hp / 470 lb-ft) all carry into 2027 exactly as they were. So do the three 4x4 systems, the Dana 44-class axles and 4:1 low range on the Rubicon, the 33- and 35-inch tire options, and the 3,500-pound four-door and 2,000-pound two-door tow ratings.

For a buyer here, that is the reassuring part: nothing that matters on a drifted section line changed, so everything in our 2026 guides on engines, towing, and two doors versus four still applies to the 2027.

2027 Wrangler — Common Questions

What is actually new on the 2027 Wrangler?

Three special editions (Rewind, California Edition, and Smoky Mountain) and a refreshed color palette. The engines, transmissions, 4x4 systems, tow ratings, and body styles carry over from 2026 unchanged, and the 85th Anniversary and Willys 41 editions retire.

Does the 2027 Wrangler still offer the manual transmission and the 392 V8?

Yes to both. The six-speed manual remains standard with the 3.6L V6 on Sport through Rubicon, and the four-door 392 with its 470-hp 6.4L V8 continues for 2027.

Is there a 2027 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid?

No. The 2027 Wrangler we can order runs the 3.6L V6, the 2.0L turbo, or the 6.4L V8 in the 392. There is no plug-in hybrid in the 2027 lineup.

Should I buy a 2026 now or order a 2027?

If you want a Wrangler this season, the 85th Anniversary Edition, or the Willys 41, buy the 2026 on the lot. Order a 2027 if one of the new editions or a new color is what you are after, since nothing mechanical changes. Our buy-now-or-order guide walks through it.
