There is exactly one exception in the whole lineup, and it is not a work truck: the 2027 Rumble Bee is a Quad Cab with the 5'7" short box on a shorter 131.9-inch wheelbase, which makes it the only short-box Quad Cab Ram builds. If you see a Quad Cab short box in a photo and cannot place it, that is what you are looking at. It is covered in our Rumble Bee guide.

Practically, the Quad Cab is the cheaper way into a long box with the big tank, which is why so many second trucks and hired-man trucks around here are Big Horn Quad Cabs. It also means that if you want leather, ventilated seats or air suspension, the cab decision is already made for you.

How Much Back Seat Do You Give Up With a Quad Cab?

Enough that it decides the purchase for most families. The Quad Cab has short rear doors and a noticeably tighter rear seat; the Crew Cab has four full-size doors and a back seat an adult can ride in to Aberdeen without complaining about it.

The real test is not legroom on a spec sheet, it is door opening. Rear-facing car seats, a hard-sided dog crate, a tote of vaccine and a sick calf on a towel in March all go in through that opening, and the Quad Cab's short door makes every one of those jobs harder than it needs to be. If somebody rides back there daily, buy the Crew Cab and do not look back.

Yes. The 33-gallon tank is standard on every 6'4"-box Crew Cab, on Limited and Longhorn, on the RHO and on the Tungsten. The 26-gallon tank is what you get on a Quad Cab and on most 5'7"-box Crew Cabs, and the 33-gallon tank is available as an option on 5'7" Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie and Rebel builds. That is a bigger deal here than it sounds anywhere else. Seven extra gallons is the difference between checking cattle, running to the elevator and getting to town and back without thinking about fuel, and stopping in Bowdle because the gauge says so. Yes, a little, and the published maximum shows exactly how. For 2027 Ram lists a maximum payload of 2,340 lbs, and that number belongs to a V6 Tradesman Quad Cab 4x2 with the 6'4" box. Every bit of cab, drive and equipment you add past that spec is weight the truck carries instead of your load.

A 4x4 Crew Cab with leather, a sunroof, a tow group and a full tank starts from a different place, and then four people and their gear ride in it.
